When I was a teen my least favorite way of waking up was to the shrill sound of Mom’s voice. Normally, she had quite a lovely voice, but NOT for the wakeup call. On her third and final dream splitting “GOOD MOOOORRNING!” she threw open the large sliding glass door to the breaking dawn. A blast of cold air engulfed the room in winter and swarms of noisy songbirds echoed the walls in summer.
“Good grief Mom!”
I HATED it.
Whatever your least favorite way of waking up, mentally put that in a box and see yourself dropping it off the edge of the Grand Canyon.
Imagine instead the smell of citrus blossoms, the softness of slowly growing morning light, and butterflies and unicorns flitting from your sleepy dreams into the dawning of the best day ever.
Which it will be…
Shortly after you wake up.
Yep. This is a wake up call.
Grab your blanky and buckle up. We’re going somewhere…to see what I saw, feel what I felt. And then… make of it what you will.
By the Light of a Blood Moon
On October 8th, 2014, Brett and I climbed out of bed at 3:45 AM to see the blood moon. Second one in a tetrad (foursome) of blood moons to occur between last April and September of this year. NASA reports that this phenomenon has not happened in a tetrad since the 1700’s, so it’s kind of a big deal.
It was a good place for God to start with me. I mean, it’s hard to meaningfully badmouth a blood moon right? No conspiracy theory to suspect, just boom, there it is. Big, and red … and undeniable.
What Makes the Red Moon Red?
The moon turns a dark red color because its light gets eclipsed by the earth, except for the infrared rays that arc around the earths atmosphere reflecting a red shadow on an otherwise bright full moon.
Super cool to see it! Put a reminder in your phone for Friday, April 3rd so you don’t miss this next one in the early morning of April 4th (google viewing times in your area in a few more weeks).
But actually, blood moons (total lunar eclipses) happen quite often, the previous one being in October 2012. It’s the sequence of four consecutive total eclipses, landing on the Jewish feast days…to match up with the conditions outlined in Revelations 12 that may be worth opening an eyeball for.
According to NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak, for over 300 years, earth has experienced nothing like a tetrad, yet now 8 sets in a row are expected in the next 30 years. It’s a new lunar “normal” and we are witnessing astronomical history friends.
“The most unique thing about the 2014-2015 tetrad”, said Espenak, “is that all of them are visible for all parts of the USA,” This is planetary alignment of the most precise variety…and just for our viewing enjoyment this year.
What does it mean?
Scientists see it as just another lunar eclipse in extremely rare sequence with a solar eclipse in the middle… but those with ears to hear and eyes to see will believe what God said when He created these heavenly bodies to be “lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:” (Genesis 1:14)
Parallel references to a darkened sun and moon turning to blood occur in the Old Testament (Joel 2:31) in the New Testament (Acts 2:20, Revelation 6:12) and four times in the Doctrine and Covenants, and all of them referring to the sign accompanying “the great and terrible day of the Lord.”
For Millennial Christians (which p.s., all Christians were until the Modern Age), these signs in the heavens mark not the “end of the world”, but rather the age just prior to the end of Satan’s worldwide system when Jehovah (Jesus Christ) returns to earth in such great glory that the event brings about a “new heaven” and a “new earth”. In the process, all who do not look to God and live will be destroyed. Jehovah will bind up Satan for 1,000 years and then reign personally as King of Kings over the whole earth. (See Revelations 20:1-6 and Revelations 21:1)
Are the blood moons a divine sign for mankind and world events? John Hagee, a Christian pastor suggests the timing for all four of the current blood moons, each occurring on Jewish Feast Days is no coincidence.
“The sun and the moon and the Earth are controlled by God Almighty,” Hagee said. “He is the one that is getting them in a direct alignment on a certain day at a certain time—but each time, it’s a Passover or Sukkot.”
In the past, the rare appearance of four blood moons on these feast days has coincided with major events for Israel and the Jewish people, ie., the expulsion of Jews from Spain, the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, and the return of the Jewish State. At present he explains, “the two recent blood moons correspond with war between Israel and Hamas last summer and the rise of ISIS and terrorism increasing around the world.” (read more)
Tribulations to Come
One thing is fairly certain, the blood moons are not ringing in peace and serenity. Speaking of his return to the earth Jesus said, “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.” Luke 21:25 (also Matthew 24)
In a devotional address in 2005, President Henry B. Eyring of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints said, “The giant earthquake, and the tsunami it sent crashing into the coasts around the Indian Ocean, is just the beginning and a part of what is to come, terrible as it was.
You remember the words from the Doctrine and Covenants which now seem so accurate”
He then quoted D&C 88:87-91 read it here about blood moons being followed by the testimony of earthquakes, thunder, lightning and tempests. After which he said,
”Fear shall come upon all people. But you and I know that the Lord has prepared places of safety to which he is eager to guide us….but it will be our choice whether or not to move up or stay where we are.
I did not plan to speak to you about the hard times that are ahead and they are real, and they are coming.” (Henry B. Eyring – Raise the Bar, BYU-Idaho Talk – January 2005)

It’s probably worth at least popping your head up off the pillow.
Star Party 2017
If the wave of blood moon tetrads don’t have you awake, checkout the Star Party coming to the skies near you in September 2017. Another amazing alignment of stars and planets matches the one described in Revelations 12:1-2.
“On September 23, 2017, there is an astronomical alignment that occurs ONLY on that day. The constellation Virgo (the virgin) will be “clothed in the sun” since the constellation will be in the sky during daylight hours, the moon will be at her feet, and the constellation Leo will be on her head. Leo only contains 9 stars, but on the morning of September 23, 2017, there will be 3 additional “stars” with Mercury, Venus, and Mars combining with Leo, “crowning” her with 12 stars. Jupiter, the king of the planets, will be exiting through her legs, “giving birth” to it.” read more about it here. LDS Commentary on Revelations 12:1-2.
Call to Action
If waking up to signs in the heavens gets your blood pumping and you wonder what to do with that wide awake energy, you could walk to the fridge for something to eat. Or, you might check-in to see what latterday prophets are admonishing God’s people everywhere to do to prepare. It may not be exactly what you think. lds.org/topics/emergency-preparedness
Do Blood Moons mean that life as we know it will end tomorrow? Probably not yet. But it’s never a bad idea to get your preps on. Blood Moons affirm that God’s plan was foretold and is in fact still rolling forward. It’s as exciting as any other external evidence that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is over all and advancing His Great Plan of Happiness for all who have ears to hear and eyes to see.
It’s as amazing as, say, finding Noah’s Ark somewhere in the mountains of Ararat (story for another post, pfff.).

My “wake-up” has been like a series of alarm clocks sequentially opening my spiritual eyes to things through which I’d previously been sleeping. The Blood Moon was just the first alarm. In the weeks ahead, I’d like to share with you the deeper meaning I’m finding in the following topics.
